Olajumoke Akere, an educationist and director of Jsay Prevarsity, has reiterated that modern education transcends traditional academics.

She highlighted the importance of developing skills, embracing diversity, and fostering innovation to prepare young minds for the challenges of a technologically advanced and globalized world.

Speaking in Ibadan to graduates and their families at a Valedictory Service for the Class of 2024 of Jsay Prevarsity, a multi-award-winning A-level College, Akere stressed that education must evolve beyond the conventional classroom setting.

She said: “As we celebrate our students’ achievements, we must also reflect on the role of government and policymakers in creating an environment that allows young minds to rise beyond borders.

“Jsay Prevarsity is renowned for bridging the gap between high school and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow through initiatives such as academic programs, scholarships, career awareness programs, STEM challenges, and capacity-building efforts, the institution prioritizes both academic success and life preparation.

“Our programs instill confidence, critical thinking, and a global perspective, equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in today’s interconnected world,” Akere stated.

Akere said she believed in the transformative power of education that extends beyond the classroom which made her authored the first edition of her inspirational book, “The Gold in You”.

She said that about 2,000 copies of the book had been distributed to Jsay Prevarsity graduates and other high school students across Nigeria.

Akere said that untapped potential capable of shaping the future of students and influencing the world lay within every student.

Akere called for continued investment in education by the government and policymakers.

She expressed gratitude to parents, whose unwavering support has been pivotal to their children’s success.

“Together, we can build a future where no boundary economic, social, or technological can hinder the aspirations of our youth.”

Akere emphasized that Jsay Prevarsity would continue to set a benchmark for excellence in education, preparing students not just for academic achievement but for impactful lives in an ever-changing world.

In his keynote lecture, Mr. Adekunle Adeluwoye, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Skrind Biotech Limited, echoed this theme of limitless opportunity in society
Adeluwoye, who spoke on the topic “Rising Beyond Boundaries,” encouraged graduates to rise to challenges, nurture meaningful relationships, and embrace the possibilities of a globalized future.

“Boundaries are not walls; they’re horizons that shift as you move toward them, revealing new opportunities with each step forward,” Adeluwoye said.

“As the graduates step into the next phase of their academic and personal journeys, they should know that true success comes when their achievements benefit not just them alone but also their communities,” he said.

Educationist tasks government on STEM, to guarantee employment, employable youths

An Educationist, Mrs Olajumoke Akere, has tasked the three tiers of governments to adequately fund education through good policies, specifically targeted at promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
An Educationist, Mrs Olajumoke Akere, has tasked the three tiers of governments to adequately fund education through good policies, specifically targeted at promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
She said doing this would not only improve the quality of human resources the nation has but that it will also solve the challenges of unemployment and unemployable graduates in Nigeria.

Data Analytics entails the systematic examination of extensive datasets to unveil patterns, correlations, and valuable insights that guide decision-making and fuel enhancements. Within higher education institutions, data analytics encompasses the comprehensive collection and scrutiny of diverse data types pivotal for comprehending both student achievements and institutional efficacy. The importance of data analytics in higher education stems from its capacity to offer decision-makers evidence-based insights. Through data analysis, institutions can pinpoint trends, patterns, and potential hurdles that influence student success. Armed with this information, they can craft proactive strategies, execute precise interventions, and enhance student outcomes at every stage of their academic journey.

Akere, who is the Director of Jsay Prevarsity, stated this during the Career Day celebration entitled: ‘‘Empowering Future Innovators: The Vital Role of STEM in Shaping Tomorrow’s Workplace. organised by Jsay Prevarsity in Ibadan.Empowering Future Innovators: The Vital Role of STEM in Shaping Tomorrow’s Workplace’ organised by Jsay Prevarsity in Ibadan, Oyo State.
She said it was imperative of the government and policymakers, to provide the necessary infrastructure, funding and policies to promote STEM education in Nigeria.
According to her, as Nigerians embrace the opportunities of the 21st century, it is clear that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are not just areas of study but the foundation upon which the future is being built.
Akere said that the nature of work in the next few years would drastically change, and involvement of technology would be at a faster pace than ever before.
She said the future workplace would demand skills that are based on critical thinking, problem-solving and innovation.

Data analytics in higher education has many advantages that directly contribute students success. To begin with, data analytics empowers institutions to spot students at risk and deliver timely interventions. Through the examination of diverse data sources, educational organizations can uncover early indicators of students who might be prone to dropping out or facing academic challenges. Predictive models can be harnessed to initiate precise interventions, such as tailored advising or tutoring initiatives, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to surmount obstacles and excel academically. Data analytics also play a pivotal role in shaping personalized learning experiences. Utilizing the knowledge extracted from data analytics, educational institutions can gain a deep understanding of students’ learning preferences, strengths, and areas needing improvement. Armed with this insight, educators can fine-tune their teaching methods, suggest pertinent learning resources, and craft individualized learning trajectories. This personalized approach ensures that students enjoy a tailored educational journey that caters to their specific requirements and maximizes their learning achievements. Data analytics also assumes a pivotal role in guiding data-driven institutional decision-making. It furnishes institutions with invaluable insights crucial for strategic planning and judicious resource allocation. Through data analysis, institutions gain the ability to make informed choices regarding the efficient distribution of resources, pinpointing areas where investments can yield the most substantial enhancements in student success. Additionally, data analytics facilitates ongoing monitoring and assessment of institutional effectiveness. By scrutinizing key performance indicators, institutions can gauge their advancement, spot domains requiring refinement, and enact data-informed adaptations to optimize their overall operations.

“The World Economic Forum predicts that more than 65% of children entering primary school today will end up in jobs that don’t even exist yet. The world is changing, and so must we,” she said.
Akere said that awareness must be created for students to know and take advantage of the broad range of career opportunities in STEM.
She emphasised that STEM wasn’t just about being a doctor or an engineer but there are countless emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, cybersecurity, data science, robotics, and environmental engineering.
Akere called on schools and parents to expose students to opportunities in STEM education early enough for them to develop interest and confidence in pursuing STEM careers.
“Parents, school have a critical role to play in shaping career choices for students to fully understand the evolving job market and the importance of STEM.
“I urge you to take a closer look at the future job market. The traditional career paths we are used to may not be the ones that provide security in the future,” she said.
Akere urged schools not to just equip students with the knowledge but also the hands-on experience they need to succeed in those fields.

She called on students not to be afraid to explore and experiment with technology, science, and mathematics. “Learn about the world of coding, robotics, environmental science, build your knowledge and as well learn how to collaborate, communicate, and solve real-world problems.
“These are the skills that will make you indispensable in the workplace of tomorrow,” she said.
She said Jsay Prevarsity, has the vision to equip students for success in tertiary education and to ensure their global relevance, and it remained dedicated to helping students realize their full potential in the STEM field.

Govt.-private sector partnership has raised bar of education in Nigeria – Expert

An Educationist, Mrs Olajumoke Akere, has said hailed the partnership between government and private education sector, saying it has helped in raising the bar of education in Nigeria.

Akere stated this while speaking at the Valedictory Service of JSAY Prevarsity in Ibadan, on Monday. Also, Education needs urgent Lagos State Govt’s intervention in Badagry- Lawmaker.

She lauded the partnership of the private sector with the government in ensuring that candidates aspiring to gain admission into tertiary institutions were able to do so.

“Considering the large number of students who fail JAMB every year, and by so doing, are denied the opportunity of attaining tertiary education, the private sector has been able to bridge this gap by tutoring them, and the result is there to show.

“We have helped many students to effectively manage the transition from secondary school to higher institutions,” she said.

According to her, the private education sector is helping secondary school leavers to attain requisite knowledge that will help them pass various local and international qualifying examinations.

Akere also said that social vices could be reduced to the barest minimum if the education sector was made to function at optimum capacity.

“Government cannot do it all, hence the need for more collaboration from the private sector in ensuring that our youths are educated.

“They form the largest percentage of our population; so it is paramount that they are fully engaged to secure the future of this nation,” she said.

Akere, who spoke on the theme: ‘Press Forward’, urged the graduands to strive for excellence in the next phase of their academic pursuits.

“You have to continue in the culture of excellence which you have learnt here. Nothing comes on a platter of gold; so read your books and work hard to be the best in life.

“I am certain that you have the capacity to be the best, as you pursue your dreams and goals of making your parents and the country proud,” she said.

In his address, Mr. Ayoade Olayiwola, the Programme Officer of the school, enjoined the graduands to continue to be a blessing to others.

“Keep your dreams and goals right before you; fully harness your potentials; be the very best of yourselves, knowing that you are uniquely made and gifted by God.

“Watch your associations too; steer clear of friends with no value and sense of direction and those with no morals to emulate.

“Remember, man is a product of influence; ensure you keep the right influence around you,” Olayiwola said.

Educationist Urges Govt. to Partner With Private Sector

The Director of JSAY Pre-varsity, Mrs Olajumoke Akere has called on the government at all levels to increase its partnership with the private sector in Nigeria, stressing that private institutions have been a major pillar in upholding high standard of education in the country.

Akere, who stated this in Ibadan to the News Agency of Nigeria at an event to mark the 12th anniversary of JSAY, noted that to achieve transformation, which comes through education, government needed to partner with the private sector.

According to her, “Education is the bedrock of development and it is important for government to invest in education through increased budgetary allocation. Government needs to take a look at the core area of development, which is education”.

Pointing out that young people needed to be groomed for success through the provision of complete education, Akere identified inadequate funding as a major challenge in the education sector, urging all stakeholders, particularly government and parents, to intervene.

Mrs Akere, while attesting that JSAY Pre-varsity is committed to a culture of excellence, disclosed that over 5,000 Nigerian children had passed through the institution.

Teachers Change Lives

It is not an exaggeration to say that a great teacher can change a student’s life. There are an endless amount of great teacher stories that attest to the benefits of a strong relationship between an educator and pupil.

As some of the most influential role models for developing students, teachers are responsible for more than just academic enrichment. If you want to be a great educator, you must connect with your pupils and reach them on multiple levels, because the best teachers are committed to their students’ well-being both inside and outside the classroom. By forging strong relationships, educators are able to affect virtually every aspect of their students’ lives, teaching them the important life lessons that will help them succeed beyond term papers and standardized tests.

It is not always easy to change a student’s life, which is why it takes a great teacher to do so. Some just need an extra push like the student whose math grade is just a few points shy from the A that will give them a 4.0 GPA; others may be going through something troubling in their personal lives and need someone to talk to. Whatever the student needs to help them excel, a life-changing teacher will be there for them.

While you will spend your entire career learning the different ways you can change your students’ lives, here are three aspects that are directly affected by great teachers:

1. Education

A great teacher makes learning fun, as stimulating, engaging lessons are pivotal to a student’s academic success. Some students who are more prone to misbehavior, truancy or disengagement are more dependent on an engaging teacher. Making your classroom an exciting environment for learning will hold the students’ fascination, and students learn best when they are both challenged and interested. It’s part of motivating students, which may not be easy, but which will benefit students immeasurably in the long run.

2. Inspiration

Have you ever had a teacher who inspired you to work harder or pursue a particular goal? Were you inspired to become an educator by one of your own great teachers?

Inspiring students is integral to ensuring their success and encouraging them to fulfill their potential. Students who are inspired by their teachers can accomplish amazing things, and that motivation almost always stays with them. Inspiration can also take many forms, from helping a pupil through the academic year and their short-term goals, to guiding them towards their future career. Years after graduation, many working professionals will still cite a particular teacher as the one who fostered their love of what they currently do and attribute their accomplishments to that educator.

3. Guidance

Teachers can also be a trusted source of advice for students weighing important life decisions. Educators can help their pupils pursue higher education, explore career opportunities and compete in events they might otherwise have not thought themselves able to. Students often look to their teachers as mentors with experience and knowledge, and, as an educator, you will almost definitely be asked for advice at some point during your career.

Did you know that one in four students drops out of school or that every nine seconds, another student drops out? Dropping out is a decision that students won’t likely come to you about, but an adept teacher can notice the indications that a student is struggling and intervene before it’s too late. Aside from educating them on the hard facts about dropping out, teachers can also help assess the problem and figure out an alternative. In such situations, teachers undoubtedly have the ability to change the lives of students.
